Therapy for Teens & Young Adults in Galena, Ohio
Growing up comes with a lot more pressure than people sometimes realize.
Maybe you’re trying to keep up with school, friendships, family expectations, work, college, relationships, and everything you’re supposed to be figuring out about your future.
From the outside, you might seem like you’re doing fine. But internally? You’re overwhelmed, overthinking everything, comparing yourself to everyone else, or wondering why things that seem easy for other people feel so hard for you.
Or maybe you’re a parent watching your teen struggle and you’re not quite sure how to help anymore.
Therapy can provide a space to talk openly, understand what’s going on underneath the surface, and build skills for handling life with more confidence.
Reasons Teens & Young Adults Come to Therapy
You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.
Sometimes you just know that something feels off.
You might be dealing with:
✿ Comparing yourself to other people
✿ Trouble adjusting to college or living independently
✿ Feeling unsure about your future
✿ Major life changes or transitions
✿ Feeling stuck, unmotivated, or disconnected from yourself
✿Anxiety and constant overthinking
You might not even know exactly what is wrong. You just know you don’t feel like yourself.
That’s enough of a reason to reach out.
✿ School or college stress
✿ Perfectionism and fear of failure
✿ Procrastination or difficulty getting started
✿ ADHD and executive functioning challenges
✿ Low self-confidence or self-esteem
✿ Friendship or relationship struggles
✿ Family conflict
✿ Feeling overwhelmed by emotions
✿ Difficulty making decisions
Therapy Can Be a Place Where You Don’t Have to Have It All Together
There are a lot of expectations that come with being a teenager or young adult:
Figure out what you want to do, get good grades, make friends, choose a career, be independent, have a social life, take care of yourself, make good decisions…
And somehow look like you have everything under control while doing it.
That’s a lot.
Therapy gives you a place where you don’t have to perform, impress anyone, or already know the answers.
We can slow things down and figure out what’s actually going on.
Instead of:
“Why can’t I just get it together?”
We can start asking:
“What’s making this so difficult right now?”
Instead of:
“Everyone else seems to know what they’re doing.”
We can work toward:
“I’m allowed to figure this out at my own pace.”
And instead of trying to eliminate every uncomfortable feeling, we can build the confidence and skills to handle those feelings when they show up.
My Approach to Therapy for Teens & Young Adults
I don’t believe therapy should feel like sitting across from someone who analyzes everything you say.
I want sessions to feel comfortable, collaborative, and real.
Some days we might talk through something that happened with a friend, parent, partner, professor, or coworker. Other days we might work on practical strategies for anxiety, procrastination, emotional regulation, organization, or decision-making.
And sometimes we might spend part of a session figuring out why you know exactly what you should do but still can’t seem to make yourself do it.
My approach draws from CBT and ACT, along with DBT-informed skills. In normal-person language: we’ll pay attention to how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors affect each other and practice strategies that actually make sense for your life.
For teens, sessions can also include creative activities, games, movement, or other hands-on approaches when sitting and talking isn't the best way to work through something.
You don’t have to show up knowing what you want to talk about. We can figure that out together.
What Teens & Young Adults Can Gain From Therapy
The goal isn’t to turn you into a completely different person.
It’s to help you understand yourself better and feel more capable of handling the things life throws at you.
Therapy can help you:
Understand why you think, feel, and react the way you do
Manage anxiety and overwhelming emotions
Stop overthinking every decision
Build confidence in yourself
Become more comfortable making mistakes
Set boundaries in friendships, relationships, and family
Communicate what you need
Build routines that actually work for you
Manage procrastination and executive functioning challenges
Handle school, college, work, and life transitions
Spend less time comparing yourself to everyone else
Make decisions based on what matters to you
Feel more like yourself again
You don’t need to have your entire life figured out.
You just need somewhere to start.
For Parents Looking for Therapy for Their Teen
Watching your teen struggle can be difficult, especially when you’re not sure whether to step in, give them space, or do a little of both.
Maybe they’ve become more anxious, withdrawn, irritable, overwhelmed, or hard on themselves. Maybe school has become a constant source of stress. Or maybe they’ve told you they want to talk to someone outside of the family.
Therapy can give your teen their own supportive space while also helping them build practical skills they can use outside of sessions.
You don’t need to know exactly what kind of therapy they need before reaching out. We can talk about what you’re noticing, answer your questions, and determine whether Wild Blooms Wellness feels like the right fit.
